There is also a wide range of Outstanding and Good Ofsted-rated primary schools right across the region, meaning that Wirral residents have an enviable range of options when considering the education of their children.

West Kirby is renowned for offering shoppers something different, including speciality clothing and furniture stores, while Hoylake provides opportunities to shop for shoes, jewellery, designer-wear fashions and quality fresh local food produce.

Locals speak highly of The Olive Tree Bistro on Victoria Road in New Brighton, while the Tee Room in West Kirby is one of the best cafes in the region.

History and Culture

Port Sunlight, a village founded at the end of the nineteenth century by William Hesketh Lever for workers from his “Sunlight Soap” factory, now offers a unique combination of beautiful architecture, a world-class art gallery, a fascinating museum and lovely parkland. Events are held throughout the year at Port Sunlight at the Gladstone Theatre and Hulme Hall. Away from Port Sunlight, you can also visit Birkenhead Priory, the oldest standing building on Merseyside, and the site of the first ferry across the Mersey.

Nature

Areas such as Parkgate and West Kirby allow residents to live in a truly idyllic environment along the estuary, which offers fabulous opportunities for walks in a spectacularly beautiful setting, perhaps taking in the famous sunset views from the beaches at New Brighton and West Kirby. You can also enjoy the red rocks of Thurstaston and breath-taking views at places such as Eastham Ferry, Wirral Country Park and the woodlands of Grange Hill in West Kirby, not to mention the views over Liverpool and North Wales from the top of Bidston Hill. Moreover, parks and green spaces are everywhere in Wirral, such as Birkenhead Park, Central Park in Liscard and Arrowe Country Park.

Leisure Facilities

All the fabulous outdoor locations in Wirral present opportunities for natural leisure pursuits, such as walking and cycling along the promenade and hiking through the countryside. For those interested in more extreme options, there is a dry ski slope at the Oval in Bebington and numerous watersport options across the area. The Royal Liverpool golf course at Hoylake is one of the most famous in the country, but it is only one of several excellent private and municipal courses in the area.
